Plants produce an abundance of classically shaped dark green pickling cucumbers. Cucumbers have black spines and reach up to 6 inches in length. Developed in 1924, it has become a most popular home and garden pickling cucumber. It is one of the best known and appreciated pickling cucumbers. Has wonderful crisp white flesh. Solid and crispy fruits have excellent canning quality, for both sweet and dill pickles. Can be harvested early for smaller pickles. Best used at smaller size. Heavy yields over a long period of time. Very productive variety. Resistant to powdery mildew.
Sowing: Plant in full sun outdoors in spring when all danger of frost and temperature is up to 65 degrees F. Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in well drained soil in full sun. Keep seed bed moderately moist during germination. Or start indoors 3 weeks before last frost.
